He now has been playing for 40 hours, is lvl 20 and has almost done all the quests he can find before doing Vizunah Square. (Told him better to have max armor for that one).

And here's the problem, he still hasn't got the money to buy it. With max armor using 200 Iron & 32 Steel Ignots the price get's pretty steep. And he merchs all the stuff he can find, and uses expert salvage kit's on for materials also already.

Now I don't know if lootscaling has anything to do with it, as he travels with 8 all the time. But I know first hand that if you kill a lot of creatures in a near instant moment, the scaling bumps in and u get almost nothing.

Now take this example. I go farm 1/8 and kill 12 creatures in an instant. I usually get 0-3 drops. Now if i'm 8/8 I will get (0-3)/8 drops. (Better example kill tons of groups of margonites in HM with Battle of Turai's Procession, in a instant with during pre-nerf splinter weapon, netting also 0-3 items).

Yes you might tell me your calculations are wrong because of lootscaling you still get the 0-3 drops because lootscaling recognizes party size. But experiences differ.

So my question is do you Experience the same in the quantity of drops, or is this just a figment of my Imagination?

Ps keep it clean, refrain from ranting. And please don't steer the pvp vs pve thing.
Teach him to farm solo with a monk secondary. As he progresses thru factions, I would urge him to go with a ritualist secondary to cap "Vengful Was Kanai" on the Luxon side. My W/Rit has more flexibility than my Monk, Ele and Assasin when it comes to farming. I always find more areas that I can farm with him.

Point him in the direction of Guildwarsguru and have him set up an account. Then send him over to the farming section to research builds.

I agree, though I didnt say it. Sticking with collectors armor is the way to go if you have the patience for collecting and finding the collectors. He could have saved enough for max armor easily.

When i first started this game, i did just the opposite and got every level armor i could get. Bad move. If you just save your money for one set of decent max armor you are much better off.

Making money in most RPG's is an exponential function of time invested (until you reach the most efficient farm/trade setup, anyway). At 40 hours you're still WELL within the range of setup time for this game.

I don't think I started making decent money until a couple of hundred hours in (bout two months in, on my War).

Could be worse; he could be playing WoW and need four to six months of hardcore play to reach max level.

Evidence has been posted many times. If you don't want to believe it then fine don't believe it. IT IS 100% FACT.

Find a mob you can solo and mass kill, easiest way to see it is with Spiteful Spirit, then take that same mob and kill them one at a time solo. A perfect spot for this is the Zelnehlun Farm outside of Rilohon Refuge.

So where is YOUR evidence that all the people that claim this are wrong?????

To the Original Poster.

I can't imagine enjoying this game if I had just started playing. Fortunately I have a full storage of cash, and 100k on each character. This is all from farming prior to the nerfs and loot scaling.

This game is NOT fun for new comers. Loot scaling failed to stop bots, and failed to make the game better for new comers.

As someone else said remember the way this franchise has been handled before spending money on GW2.

Not to mention 20 imperial commendations @ 200g each + the various quests in between shing jea and vizunah that give 250g each.

You also take more time killing them. Your earnings per hour are the same.

No, you can't. Just like you'd have hard time imagining anyone enjoying any game after giving up all your wealth and achievements. Money was much harder to make in the beginning. Making a solo monk cost 50k easily. And yet, everyone eventually got past the beginner stage and made money.

Jaded farmer?

There's plenty of newcomers. They are doing just fine, and have a much easier job than newcomers used to. Loot scaling only has meaning to some that relied on solo farming to make absurd fortunes. It has no impact on regular player. And even then, farms still exist, just like they always did. And almost all of them are considerably cheaper to run than they used to be, regarding the runes and equipment.

I never upgraded my armour every chance I got... I upgraded once, then waited until I got Max armour. Worked fine, and I didn't die more than other people. That's probably why your friend has no money...he's spent it all on useless armour upgrades he didn't need...

you are wrong. Its not a AoE bug that reduces loot. Its a ToD bug( Timing of Death) that what happens is when you multipe things at once the loot assignment system hangs on its first step the selection of who gets the drop. Thus if you are soloing and now since you have LS it makes it seems worse. Its actually a left over bug from the OLD FoW drop bug thats still left over when Anet fixed it long ago.

but heres your proof and by what you are claiming then thi would never happen.

First picture 3 kills 3 drops.

Second picture 3 drops 4 kills all where kill at once using AoE.

Now back to the OP. Yes it is harder for new players now as all the essentials that are needed for armors and that is exactly what is effected by LS. Including collectors drops.

A thought just hit me. Are we going to have to buy 100-200 levels worth of armor in GW2? Are we all going to need 1 million plat plus per char in order to buy the max AL armor in that game, not to mention elite or that game's version of FoW/Vabbian?

I'll take my husband's case. He's relatively new to GW, but not to MMORPGs (he's been playing D2 online since 2000, so 7 years). In only a few days of playing, he already outgrew the learning curve. He's getting bored of not being of a higher level, not having the skills and weaponry that he'd need... so cash is an issue for him.

Normally I'd tell the people to play through the game and get cash, save for max armor instead of buying stuff every town... since cash is hard to come by these days. But he's my husband and I can see him (literally) get bored of having to kill all these foes for a measly 100g, while he has skills, weaponry and another character to sustain.

What we did:

1. I paid for his Droks armor and a few runs; he's getting bored, might as well help him level up fast before he goes nuts. He's past the learning curve of where he is level-wise (15, in Kryta), time for him to move on. 15k won't kill me anyways.

2. I told him to work on ONE character at a time. He doesn't have the means to sustain multiple characters yet, like most of us are doing (I guess, after 2 years). He's gotta deal with one, a ranger, that needs skills so he can learn farming runs (FoW, UW, ToPK - he's a Proph-only guy so far). So once he's settled, and made a few more k's... he'll be able to do the same with his ele (farm, make money, get ran around, work on a new character).

I think this... lack of cash... comes from loot scaling, since I have no idea why he's having such a hard time coming across cash, which isn't a good experience for him. I don't recall having such problems, or maybe I didn't NOTICE it, since I hadn't played online RPGs before (but been gaming since I'm 4 and I'm 22) and had nothing to compare it.

I haven't made a new character in over a year but as I recall, even in prophecies getting to max level is easy. Making money on the other hand has changed since loot scaling and end game greens which has decreased the value of greens dropped by bosses.

You all act like hes a veteran player starting a new character. New players don't know about all the quests. New players don't know the return rate for trading Imperial Commendations is highest with Superior Salvage. New players don't know the best builds. New players don't know the best farming spots.
You can talk all high and mighty about soloing mobs in the UW, and vanquishing zones in a timely manner, but how the hell is a new player suppose to find out about these things, and more importantly, if he can't even afford armor, how's he suppose to afford skills to run these builds?

It's still against the EULA. I've never resorted to this and I make cash quiet easily, you just need the good spots.

In the past, when you get lucky, you get gold runes from armor drops. eg. monk sup runes are like 15-20k, sup vigor are like 70k and warrior absorption runes are 100k at trader.

Well, now they don't make a difference, everything cost the same
